East Fowl river
« on: January 20, 2016, 06:23:05 PM »
Went to East Fowl River today. Typical South Alabama Weather. Raining and cold when I launched and calm winds. Then sunny then cloudy then very windy and very windy. Down to a t-shirt then rain on the way home. Did catch a couple of specs but no reds. Sheepheads and white trout on live bait. Specs were deep. pulling a sinking mirror lure very slow. Go get em. I know there are a few there cause I put them back. Great to be on the water.

Nice.  I don't know anything about Fowl River.  I learned how to fish Dog River a little this fall.  I wanted to try Fowl and the Canal at Christmas but the rain ruined it.  I've always fished Dauphin Island in the past.

Glad you got out!   Since I live on the east side of the bay i don't fish a lot of that west-side water.

I love to see and fish beautiful waters. We are fortunate enough to have beautiful waters all around the bay. I was fishing in front of Bellingraph Gardens and found myself day dreaming about how it would have looked when Bellingraph built his place. I try to visit all of them once in a while. Even Mobile river right downtown has it's charms if you have the right frame of mind.

I'm still looking for a place to launch a kayak and access the Mobile River and fish the BAE/Austal docks.  No luck yet. :o

Snookman...that may be a blessing for you. If you do go into that area in a yak be very careful of two tan colored pushboats that are oval In shape. They create a HUGE wake even at low speed.

I frequent the TIC while they're moving tugs.  Is it worse than that?

I fish TIC as well and have never seen these push boats in there. I think they only escort ships in the Mobile River. They are round on both ends and low to the water. I run a Cobia in the river most of the time and I am wary of those boats. Just be careful and watch for them. They will rock your world. Battleship park may work for you. The water all the way to the river is shallow flats along that west bank. I do catch fish along those flats at times. I do not know of a closer place. My back will not take sitting in a yak long enough to fish.
